No. 10 Women’s Soccer Dominates Franklin for 400th Win

St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 8, 2018– The No. 10-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team picked up the 400thwin in program history with a 5-0 victory over Franklin College Saturday in St. Louis.

WashU improved to 4-0 with the win, while Franklin suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 1-1-1.

Freshman Ariana Miles recorded a hat trick in the win. The hat trick is the first by a WashU student-athlete since Anna Zambricki on Sept. 1, 2011.

WashU outshot Franklin 43-2, and had a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Miles scored the first goal of her career off a cross from senior Darcy Cunningham just 59 seconds into the game. Cunningham made it 2-0 in the 18thminute as she scored on a breakaway off an assist from junior Taylor Cohen.

Miles added tallies in the 54thand 59thminute to push the lead to 4-0, and then freshman Erin Flynn added an insurance goal at 77:20 to round out the scoring.

Sophomore Emma Greenfield (65 minutes) and freshman Mary Frances West (25 minutes) combined for the Bears' fourth-straight shutout in goal.

WashU travels to Millikin University (0-3) on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Decatur, Ill. 

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU and Franklin met for the first time in school history … The Bears are 33-1-1 at home the past four seasons … WashU is off to a 4-0 start for the seventh time in the last eight seasons … The Bears have allowed just one shot on goal this season.
