Reinhardt Named Interim Head Golf Coach

St. Louis, Mo., August 18, 2021 - Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs & Director of Athletics Anthony J. Azama has announced the hiring of Dave Reinhardt as the Interim Head Golf Coach.

"Dave Reinhardt's familiarity with our program will be instrumental to the growth and development of our student-athletes this fall," stated Azama. "During the search process facilitated by Sport Program Administrator, Summer Hutcheson, Dave's knowledge of the game was evident and we look forward to assisting his process to build upon the foundation he established with Coach Swanson."

Reinhardt is no stranger to the WashU golf program, having served as an assistant with the Bears since 2018.

During his time at WashU, Reinhardt has mentored three Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Americans. In 2021, first-year Caraline Oakley earned WGCA Honorable Mention All-America honors while Samantha Haubenstock earned a First Team nod in 2020. Also in 2020, Annie Mascot was named WGCA National Player of the Year – just the second in program history – and picked up First Team All-America honors.

In his first season with the team, 2018-19, WashU placed 11th at the NCAA Championship in Houston, Texas, which was the sixth-best in school history. Additionally, the Bears have notched eight first-place finishes during Reinhardt's tenure.

In addition to his responsibilities with the golf program, Reinhardt co-founded Next Step Golf Academy in St. Louis in 2017, which offers instruction to juniors of all ages and abilities. Reinhardt is a lead instructor and responsible for golf instruction, advertisement, communication and finances.

Reinhardt also works as an Assistant Golf Professional and Merchandiser for the Tapawingo National Golf Club in St. Louis. There, he is responsible for the daily supervision of the 27-hole golf facility which includes renting to the public, supervising a staff, maintaining the club's website and developing social media strategies.

Prior to his current roles, Reinhardt was the Tournament Coordinator and Golf Services Manager at the Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo. from 2011-17 and the First Assistant Golf Professional at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla. from 2008-10. Additionally, he was an Assistant Golf Professional at St. John's Golf and Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla. from 2007-08, an Assistant Golf Professional and Outside Operations at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. from 2005-07 and the General Manager, Director of Golf and Head Golf Professional at Baymeadows Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla. from 2003-05.

Reinhardt replaces Mary Swanson who led the Bears' golf program for the last three seasons and was the third coach in program history. During her tenure, WashU set several records, including lowest round, lowest 36-hole score and the lowest 72-hole score. Additionally, Swanson was named the 2019-20 Golf Pride Grips WGCA Central Region Coach of the Year. Swanson departed the University in July to begin a new role with the non-profit organization, First Tee.

Reinhardt begins his duties this week.
