Normal, Ill., Sept. 16, 2018 – The No. 8-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team nearly matched its day one performance at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic to finish at the top of the leaderboard by a 16-stroke advantage on Sunday at Ironwood Golf Course.

The Bears won their third straight event to begin the season after posting a two-day score of 588 (293, 295). Grinnell was second with 604 (302, 302) strokes as DePauw placed third overall with a 612 (303, 309) score.

"The team did a great job building strategies during our pre-tournament round and stayed focused on the process throughout the 36 holes," said WashU head coach Mary Swanson. "It's easy to get distracted by outcomes, especially coming off of a school record.

The team did a great job taking each round shot by shot. Everyone in the playing five made a strong contribution and our individuals made improvements in their game as well."

Junior Samantha Haubenstock placed second overall with a two-under par 142 (70, 72). Senior Chloe DiPetrillo had the Bears second best score 144 (71, 73) as freshman Lydia Tsai matched DiPetrillo's day two one-over 73.

Tsai's two-day total was 149 (76, 73). She was followed by freshmen Julia Dai 154 (77, 77) and Alyssa Kim 155 (76, 79).

The Bears will next travel to Danville, Ind. For the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic Sept. 29-30. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Bears scores and awards by following @WashUBears on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
