Memphis, Tenn., Sept. 8, 2018 – The No. 8-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team shot 289 in the opening round of the Rhodes Classic to set a new school record for lowest 18-hole round as junior Samantha Haubenstock led all golfers with a personal-best six-under par 67 on Saturday. Day two was cancelled due to rain.

The Bears previously low round was a 291 at the Millikin Classic in 2011-12 and in 2014-15 at the George Fox Invite.

Haubenstock's round is one of five sub-70 scores in program history and she has reached the feat three times. She had three birdies on the front nine to go with one bogie before adding four more birdies on the back-nine to pair with five pars. Haubenstock recorded birdies on all five par-fives. Olivia Lugar holds the school record with a 66 during the 2014-15 season.

WashU leads the seven team field while Methodist University in an even par 292 and Transylvania University is third with 294 strokes. Rhodes College concluded play seven-over par 299.

Freshman Alyssa Kim is third overall with an even-par 73. She recorded a bogie on the par-4 third hole before negating the shot on the back-nine with a birdie on the par-3 16th hole. Freshman Lydia Tsai is fifth with a one-over par 74. She recorded two birdies on the back-nine.

Senior Chloe DiPetrillo shot a 75 and is tied for 12th place as she recorded multiple par-five birdies. Freshman Julia Dai rounded out the Bears lineup and concluded the opening round with a 76 and is tied for 16th. She tallied four birdies.
