No. 3 Women’s Golf in Second Place After Day One of UIS Invite

Springfield, Ill., April 18, 2015 – The No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team sits in second place out of six teams after an opening round 322 at the 2015 University of Illinois-Springfield Spring Invite held Saturday at Piper Glen Golf Course in Springfield, Ill.

In a field that features five NCAA Division II teams, University of Southern Indiana holds a three-shot lead over WashU after an opening round 319. WashU (322), Illinois-Springfield (329), Drury University (331), Maryville University (339) and St. Joseph's College (359) round out the six-team field.

Southern Indiana's Anastasia Carter and UIS's Jocelyn Matsen both fired a 4-over 76 and are tied for the individual lead. Junior Connie Zhou shot a 5-over 77 and is in third place and one shot back of the lead, while senior Olivia Lugar is a stroke behind Zhou after a 6-over 78 and is fourth.

The final round of the 2015 UIS Spring Invite will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU entered the tournament with a 311.11 average … Junior Erin Lawrence led the tournament field on day one in Par 3 scoring (2.75) … Head coach Sean Curtis celebrated a birthday Saturday.
