Normal, Ill., April 11, 2015 – The No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team fired a 301 and sits in first place after the opening round of the 2015 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling held at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
In tournament field that features seven top-25 ranked teams, Washington U. four of its five starters shoot 80 or less and has a two-shot lead over No. 8-ranked and defending national champion Rhodes College (303). Olivet College (311), No. 25 and host Illinois Wesleyan (312) and Gustavus Adolphus College (313) round out the top five in the 19-team field.
Senior Olivia Lugar shot a 1-under 71 and has a two-shot lead over Alexandria Ramirez of DePauw University. Lugar had three birdies and just one bogey on the par 72, 5,835-yard course. Sophomore Jessica Wibawa shot a career-best 3-over 74, and sits in five-way tie for fourth place. Wibawa recorded 14 pars and had a birdie on the par-3 No. 16.
Sophomore Samantha Han and junior Connie Zhou both shot a 5-over-77 and is tied for 13th place. Han, who is playing as an individual, tied a career-best that she set in the opening round of the Washington University Spring Invitational two weeks ago.
The final round of the IWU Spring Fling will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU entered the tournament with a 312.12 average …Lugar led the tournament field in par 3 scoring (2.75) and par 4 scoring (3.90).
