No. 3 Women’s Golf Second at George Fox Invite in Arizona

Peoria, Ariz., March 15, 2015 – Senior Olivia Lugar and junior Connie Zhou recorded top-five finishes to lead the No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team to a second place finish at the George Fox Westbrook Invitational held Saturday-Sunday at Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz.

Washington U. shot a two-day total of 591 (291-300), the second lowest 36-hole score in school history. No. 5-ranked and host George Fox University won the event with a score of 583 (289-294), while Washington U. and No. 10 University of Redlands (303-288, 591) tied for second. No. No. 1 University of Texas-Tyler and 18 Trinity University (Texas) rounded out the top five in the seven-team field.

Sydney Maluenda of George Fox was the individual champion with a two-day score of 136 (67-69).

Lugar set a 36-hole school record with a 140 (66-74) to take home third place honors in a field of 43 golfers. She broke her own school record of 144, set during the 2011-12 season. Zhou finished two strokes back of Lugar in fifth place with the second-lowest 36-hole score in school history of 143 (73-70).

Freshman Erin Drolet (75-79, 154, 17th place), sophomore Jessica Wibawa (78-77, 155, 19th place) and junior Erin Lawrence (77-80, 157, 22nd place) rounded out the staring lineup for WashU. Sophomore Samantha Han competed as an individual and tied for 22nd place with a two-day score of 157 (78-79).

Washington U. returns to action Saturday-Sunday, March 22-23, at the Joe Duncan Rhodes Invite in Germantown, Tenn.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: Washington U. led the tournament field in par 4 scoring (4.21), second in par 3 scoring (3.28) and third in par 5 scoring (.520) … Zhou led the field in Par 5 scoring at 4.50 (-3) while Lugar was second in par 4 scoring (4.00) and third in par 3 scoring (2.88).
