South Bend, Ind., September 14, 2014 – Junior Connie Zhou fired a two-over 73 to lead the Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team Sunday at the 2014 O'Brien National Invitational held at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
Washington U. sits in second place in a field of 10 teams, including four that finished in the top-10 at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship.
Wittenberg had three student-athletes break 80, and fired a 307 on day one and hold a 16-shot lead over second place Washington U. The Bears shot a 323 on Sunday, and had two players shoot 80 or lower in Zhou (73) and senior Olivia Lugar (79). Zhou and Jane Hopkinson-Wood of Wittenberg University are tied for first in the individual standings.
Defending national champion Rhodes College is two strokes back of Washington U. after an opening round 325, while George Fox University (326) and Whitman College (330) round out the top five.
The final round of the 2014 O'Brien National Invitational will conclude with 18 holes Monday beginning at 9 a.m. (ET).
Bear Notebook: Zhou (4.09) and Lugar (4.27) were first and second in Par 4 scoring … Zhou had three birdies in the opening round, which was tied for second … Sophomore Samantha Han recorded 11 pars, second most in the field.
