Women’s Golf Captures Olivet Labor Day Tee-Off Title

Marshall, Mich., September 1, 2013 – The No. 3 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team opened the 2013-14 season by capturing the Olivet College Labor Day Tee-Off team championship, held Saturday-Sunday, August 31-Sept. 1, at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich.

Washington U. had six of its nine golfers finish in the top-10 in the individual standings.

The Bears completed the two-day event with a score of 628 (308-320), holding off second-place and No. 17 ranked Olivet by seven strokes. St. Mary's College (338-334, 672), No. 14 ranked Wittenberg University (342-332, 674) and Baldwin-Wallace University (343-338, 681) rounded out the top-five.

Among the eight teams in the field, four teams are ranked in the top-25 of the 2013-14 Golf World Preseason Coaches' Poll, with another three teams receiving votes.

Junior Olivia Lugar took home second place honors in a field of 53 golfers. Lugar, who was named to the All-Tournament team, fired a two-day total of 151 (74-77) to finish one stroke behind Olivet's Theresa Damico (74-76, 150).

Sophomore Connie Zhou joined Lugar on the All-Tournament Team after a fourth-place finish. Zhou was three strokes behind Damico firing a two-day total of 153 (77-76). Zhou's 76 on Sunday was the third lowest score of the day. Senior Andrea Hibbert also had a top-10 showing, finishing in eighth place with a 162 (79-83).

Freshman Jessica Wibawa (78-90, 168, 13th place) and sophomore Erin Lawrence (90-84, 25th place) rounded out the starting lineup for the Bears.

Washington U. had four student-athletes competing as individuals, with two finishing in the top-10 in freshman Xin Fang (77-82, 159, sixth place) and Samantha Han (80-80, 160, seventh place). Fang, Han and Wibawa were competing in their first collegiate tournament.

Senior Allyson Chee (95-95, 190, 48th place) and junior Mackenzie Findlay (94-101, 193, 50th place) also played as individuals.

Washington University will have a week off before returning to action at the O'Brien National Invitational Sunday-Monday, Sept. 15-16, in South Bend, Ind. Round one begins Sunday at 11 a.m. (ET).

Bear Notebook: Lugar was first in the tournament in Par 4 scoring (4.00, Even) … Hibbert led the tournament field with 21 pars … The Bears were first as a team in par 4 scoring (4.35, +35), second in par 3 scoring (3.40, +16) and third in par 5 scoring (5.93, +37) … Washington U. also led the tournament in pars with 91 … The tournament championship was the 16th in school history in six seasons as a varsity sport.
