Saint Paul, Minn., Sept 1, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team dominated play at Macalester College but could not find the back of the net in a 0-0 double overtime scoreless draw Sunday in Saint Paul, Minn.
WashU falls to 0-1-1 with the tie, while Macalester is 0-0-2.
WashU outshot Macalester 14-10 and had an 9-1 advantage on corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Martin made three saves and picked up the first shutout of his career.
The Scots had a golden opportunity midway through the first overtime after Martin was out of position and senior Isaac Plutzer blocked a shot in the box that went off the near post.
Plutzer had a chance to win it in the 109th minute but Macalester goalkeeper Cade Fink came up with the save.
Freshman Julian Gancman led WashU with three shots.
WashU hosts Pacific Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. in the 2019 home opener.
