Davidson Tabbed Preseason All-American by Two Outlets


St. Louis, Mo., July 30, 2018 – Washington University in St. Louis junior punter/quarterback Johnny Davidson was named to the 2018 D3football.com and Lindy's Sports Preseason All-America Second Team, as announced by the media outlets

Davidson, a Third-Team D3football.com All-America and Second-Team All-South Region selection a year ago, ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in punting average (41.9). He punted 37 times for 1,550 yards, with a career-best 73-yarder at Washington and Lee on Oct. 7.

Davidson was a two-time D3football.com Team of the Week and University Athletic Association (UAA) Special Teams Athlete of the Week selection. The Bears' punt team led the UAA and ranked seventh in NCAA Division III in net punting (37.76).

He enters his junior season ranked first in school history in punting average (41.4), and is also the active NCAA Division III leader.

Davidson also earned Honorable-Mention All-UAA honors at quarterback, starting the final seven games under center. He completed 195-of-295 pass attempts for 2,035 yards and 16 touchdowns. Davidson ran the ball for 288 yards and three TDs. He ranked first in the UAA in completion percentage (66.1) and second in passing yards per game (226.1).

WashU opens the 2018 season at home on Sept. 1, against the University Chicago, followed by its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) opener at 2017 NCAA Second Round participant North Central College on Sept. 15.
